Down, But Not Out!
-Jeremy Grace
The boy’s varsity cross country team had a tough loss
last Wednesday to Acalanes and College Park at Hidden Valley Park.
They came up nine points short of beating the Dons and only five
off from beating the Falcons. This puts Dublin two and a half
games back from first place, but that doesn’t mean they’re
out of the running for top four teams in league. Hopefully they’ll
be able to get a win at their next league meet when they take
on Campolindo and Concord in a few weeks. Right now they are in
fifth place.
Individual wise the race was quite successful, as Gael’s
James Attarian and Jeremy Grace took first and second in times
of 15:35 and 15:36 respectively. Phillip Saenz took eleventh place
in a time of 16:43. Taylor Carsely and Jason Yun finished the
Gael pack with Taylor getting a time of 18:34 and Jason getting
a 19:20. “I wasn’t feeling the best out there,”
commented Jason, “but I made sure to finish the race.”
The varsity Lady Gaels couldn’t score since they didn’t
have a complete team, but they sure gave a good effort. Terri
Burgess came in first out of her team in a three mile time of
24:46. Gabby George came in after her with 25:15. Alex Meadows
and Mayra Orozco came in next for Dublin with times of 25:16 and
27:10. “I hope to improve on this time at Mt. Sac,”
said Terri, “even though I know that course will be harder.”
JV teams sure showed their stuff, with Nadia Saenz coming in
second all around in the two mile distance. The girls continued
to do well with Elizabeth Beasley coming in fourth all around.
This is good news for the Lady Gael’s varsity team because
these runners will be able to get some fast times for the Gaels
in the Mt. Sac race. “I’m glad with my place, but
I bet I could of come in first if I had more time,” explained
Nadia.
The Gaels will be heading down to Los Angeles for their next
race at the famous Mt. Sac Invitational where they’ll see
how they stack up against team from across the nation. This meet
should get the team ready for the NCS and State that are soon
to follow.
