Too Close for Comfort

Rainy weather plus Friday night lights equals a very entertaining
football game. Well it was, as the Gaels took on the Mt. Diablo
Red Devils. The Gaels came out a little sluggish, but ended up
with the W. The final score would end up being 14-16 Dublin. Dublin’s
Frankie Davillier had another good game with 101 rushing yards
and a touchdown.
The Gael’s offense came out real sloppy, and just didn’t
have it. They had tons of penalties that just kept moving them
back. The Gael’s offense couldn’t get anything started
in the first half. They were just held to 33 total yards in the
first half. “You can tell they were just really frustrated,
and trying to do too much,” says one fan.
Dublin’s defense didn’t take long to get into a groove
and be dominant, but they still gave up the big plays. On what
seemed to be a broken play, Mt. D’s QB Owo Mobio took off
on a QB sneak, and ran it for a 50-yard td run. However, after
that, it was all business and Dublin didn’t let anything
up.
Dublin came out firing in the second half. On their first series
they drove down the field and scored on a 4-yard run by Chris
Hakimi. They would end up getting the ball back on the very next
kickoff by a pooch kick from kicker Joseph Tanguay. Momentum had
definitely shifted towards the Gaels. Dublin’s punt block
would put a lot of pressure and it caused a bad snap which would
end up being a safety.
Mt. Diablo would end up scoring late in the 4th quarter to make
a comeback. On the next play they would try an offside kick and
the got it back, but there was a flag on the play, so Dublin got
a second chance. The red devils would try again to get the ball
back, but Dublin would recover the ball which pretty much secured
the game.
This week the Gaels are looking to improve their record to 4-3
on the road against Concord high and it looks like its going to
be another great game.
