First Job Jitters
-Jessica Sturla
Looking around school, it seems like almost everyone you ask has a job. Want to get in on the action and earn so money while you’re at it? There’s only one thing standing in your way, you have to be interviewed before you can even think about earning that sweet cash. Here are a few tips to help you nail that interview!
Be presentable: No employer wants to hire someone who looks like they haven’t showered in a week. Dress nicely, now I don’t necessarily mean wearing a suit, just look put together. Employers want to see someone who took time to take care of themselves. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
Be on time: Always arrive ten to fifteen minutes early. This shows the person hiring you that you can be on time and dependable. It also shows that you want the job.
Practice: You should always practice so you are prepared for what the employers are going to ask you. Everyone knows when the moment comes and the nerves start kicking in, you tend to blank out.
“Make sure you don’t say ‘like’ and ‘um’ a lot during the interview, it not only makes you sound stupid but no employer wants to hire someone who doesn’t have enough vocabulary.” commented senior Kayla Hans.
Don’t worry if they don’t hire you its nothing personal, maybe they were looking for something else. Good luck!
Finally the most important rule is to relax and be yourself!
