Gaels score Big Points at Mt. Sac
-Jeremy Grace

There was no shade on the starting line as Dublin ’s three varsity boys waited in the hot, 90 degree weather waiting for the gun to blow. The Gaels took on some of the fastest teams in the state, as well as other states.

Out of the 160 runners that entered the Division Three sweepstakes race, Gael’s James Attarian and Jeremy Grace took first and seventh in times of 14:59 and 15:40. Their times turned out fast enough that they both were in the top ten times for all of the races on that Friday. Including the Division 4 and 5 sweepstakes races where both their times were faster than the first place finishers in those divisions.

Phillip Saenz also gave a great race, coming in 77 with a time of 17:17; a really good time considering the heat and how many hills the course holds. “I was happy with my first mile because I was amazed at how fast I went. I can’t believe I went 4:57 the first mile,” says Phillip. This race was a historic event for the Gael’s cross country team, considering it was the first time ever that the Gaels have competed in a Sweepstakes race.

That wasn’t the only race a Gael won; Jennifer Kaehms won the Div. 3 JV race in a time of 21:23. “This whole weekend was a blast,” commented Jen.

“It’s too bad we didn’t have a full team to score, but I still feel like the day went well,” told runner Jason Yun which competed in the JV race. They may not have scored, but Jason, Alex Nolan, and Eric Williams all competed their best for the Gaels. “I think with a full team we could be quite successful. Jason and Alex are strong runners. Especially for Alex being a freshmen,” said Eric

The cross country season will soon be in its final months with the League Meet in two weeks and NCS a week after that. Be sure to come out and support the team!
