Winter Sports Preseason Information
-Mike Fulwiler

With the fall sports season coming to a close, student athletes are preparing for the winter sports of basketball, soccer, and wrestling. Since many sports have already begun their preseason conditioning, here is all the information for those of you who don’t know (freshman pay attention).

Basketball has been preparing for their upcoming season for awhile now, holding open gyms, shoot-arounds, and conditioning.  For men, actual practice begins on November 2nd, in preparation for their first game at home against San Lorenzo High School on Saturday, November 17th at noon. The women have been practicing hard as well and are preparing for their first scrimmage away at Mission San Jose on Saturday, November 17th at 10:00 AM. If you’re interested in playing basketball, make sure to go out to the preseason activities. The schedule varies from week to week, so make sure to ask around about it.

Soccer has been preparing for the upcoming season as well. On the men’s side, conditioning is being held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school, on the track from 3:00 to 4:00. They will be having their tryouts on November 5th and 6th at 7:30 PM both days. The Men’s soccer will then play their first scrimmage on the road against Deer Valley High School on November 12th. For both the men and the women, coed open fields being held for players to sharpen up their skills. The open fields will be held today, October 25th at 5:00 PM and on November 1st at 7:30 PM. Tryouts for the women’s team will be held on November 6th from 6:00-7:30 PM and November 7th with the time to be announced. Then there will be another pair of tryouts on November 8th from 7:30-9:00 PM and November 9th from 4:00-6:00 PM. The Women begin their season at home against Ygnacio Valley on November 15th at 5:30 PM. If you want to play soccer, be sure to come out to the conditioning and open fields.

Wrestling has been getting ready for the upcoming season as well. Currently, they are conditioning everyday after school from 3:00 to 4:00 in preparation for the first meet at College Park on December 13th. If you are interested in participating, make sure to go out to the conditioning after school.

And as a final note concerning all athletes, you will not be allowed to participate in tryouts if you haven’t had a physical. Make sure to go to the Student Activities Office and pick up and fill out a medical release packet before tryouts come along.
