Global Peace

It’s a fact, our former Vice President Al Gore is now the proud recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He was announced the winner on October 12th in
Norway
. He shares the award with the United Nation’s Climate Change Committee, who he worked closely with. The Committee, who makes the finally decision on the winners, recognized him for his outstanding work on global warming and climate change. “Its really cool how an American won the award,” said Amanda Price.
What Gore is most famous for is his popular documentary An Inconvenient Truth which allowed the public to gain a greater understanding of what global warming is and see some of the signs that it really is happening. His documentary was largely applauded and won the Academy Award for Best Documentary recently. “I really liked the movie, because I learned a lot from it,” said Sagar Desai.
Gore says he plans to share the money that he received with the award with the
Alliance
for Climate Protection, which is a private organization who is trying to solve global warming.
The United Nations Committee, whom he works very closely with, works near
Europe
’s northern fringe where a lot of the ice is slowly melting away. The Committee includes over 2,000 scientists who were happy to share the award with Gore. They applauded him for spreading awareness to the public about such an important issue.
Many people felt the award was an attempt to criticize President Bush for not doing as much as possible to solve global warming, but either way President Bush was present to congratulate Gore for being chosen. The issue of global warming is much more than a national issue, it affects the entire world.
Now that Gore received the award, there is large speculation that Gore will run for president in 2008, but Gore’s spokesman said that he has no plans to run. “I think Gore would be a good candidate for president, even though he didn’t win last time,” said Mark Guadagni. Gore plans to be a spokesperson for the environment and continue on the journey he truly cares about. He definitely has done a lot for our planet and deserved the award.
