Go Lady Gaels!
-Chereese Thomas
It was a fun and exciting week for the girl’s volleyball team, winning first place in their division. The girls had a tournament on Saturday, October 20. They were at Sir Francis Drake High at six o'clock in the morning to start the day. In tournament play they play best out of three instead of best out of five. The team played a total of five games and won three out of the five.
The first team they play was from
Sacramento
. They lost this game but they did what they did best and played hard. The lady Gaels started to take one to the chin because they lost their second game as well to Sir Francis Drake. Of course that didn't stop them; in the third game they defeated Encinal. After the game against Enicinal all the teams were split up into their divisions. There was the silver division, gold division and the bronze division.
Dublin
was in the silver division.
The first team they played in the silver division was Bethinal.
Dublin
has played Bethinial in the last tournament that they were in. Since the ladies defeated them before they could beat them again. That’s exactly what they did.
Mariah Fulton, team captain, was having serious ankle injuries. On Thursday October 18, our trainer Amy was not here so Mariah could not get her ankle treatment. She played on a sprained ankle. Can someone say tough! "No pain, no game," that's all Mariah said the whole weekend. In spite of her injuries the varsity brought along Jasmine Davidson the junior varsity setter as a back up in case Mariah couldn’t go anymore.
After beating Bethnial, the girls were up against Hedge-Ridge. This is a catholic school in
Oakland
. It was really exciting for these girls to go into this game. By this time it was getting late into the day and the girls were tired. So their coach had them get pumped by warming up and stretching. Going into the game
Dublin
won the first match. In the second match it was close all the way up until the end when
Dublin
broke away and won.
The team came home with a plaque that say first place in the silver division. The girls play next Thursday October 25 at home against
Concord
. Come support!
