Need some extra money? Unsure about how you’re going to pay for all of those fancy gifts this year? Well if you haven’t already noticed many stores are hiring seasonal employees right now.

If you want to work retail this winter you’re in luck! Some of the most popular clothing stores at the mall are hiring for seasonal jobs right now including Hollister, American Eagle, Macy’s, and Hot Topic. “I just started working at Hollister. Its really chill plus I get to shop while I work!” said Crystle Nancovski.

If clothing isn’t your thing maybe you should try something that involves some more muscle. Many Christmas tree lots will be opening up soon. Different lots can be found from nurseries to Longs Drug Store. “I was considering applying to a Christmas tree lot because you make a lot of money and can get tips. You don’t have to actually move the trees, I could just be a cashier,” explained Brittany Cohen.

Another good seasonal job can be found at your local grocery store or even drug store. Both Target and Lucky are big holiday hirers and if you do a good job at these stores they may even ask you to stay past the holiday season. “I’ve been working at Target for a long time but recently I’ve noticed they’re hiring a lot for seasonal jobs. If you want to apply there for the season it’s pretty easy to get a job right now,” explained Sherice Leon .

If you’re planning on spending a lot of weekends at the snow you could also apply at a ski resort. Many of the resorts are extremely flexible with hours and may even hire you on for just a week or two during winter break.

If you’re a junior or senior many shipping companies also hire a lot for the holiday season rush. Plus at UPS and FedEx the pay is usually higher than minimum wage.

The key to finding a seasonal job is timing and place. If it seems like the business is geared toward making money and they’re a bit understaffed the chances of landing the job are pretty good. Just remember that when the season ends, so does the job usually. However, if you have little or no job experience or just want to try out a job then a seasonal job is the answer. So get out there, fill out some applications, and beat the Black Friday rush!
