Dublin Boys Make All-League!

By Jeremy Grace

A quick course, perfect weather, and good training all went into explaining why the Dublin Boys has such a good race day at the DFAL Cross Country League Championships. Senior James Attarian won the race in a great time of 14:48 and Jeremy Grace coming in third with a time of 15:18. Both received medals and became first team all-league for the second year straight, along with last year’s league champion Nate Beach of Acalanes and last year’s NCS champion Greg Drosky. Phillip Saenz and Jason Yun came in third and fourth for Dublin in fast new times. For a while the Gaels were nervous they wouldn’t have a fifth man to score, but fortunately freshman Alex Nolan stepped up for the challenge.

The five of their abilities combined gave Dublin enough points to come up with fifth place in the league. College Park went on to win the league title with a score of 62, beating Acalanes by 12 points. “I’m glad we could get a win over Alhambra and Miramonte,” told Jason Yun, “maybe this means even a possible State spot if we can keep it up at NCS.”

The race started fast and ended the same way, Campolindo came off the line sprinting the first two hundred meters faster than anyone probably wanted to start. After the first hill though, the usual runners took over the pack.

The Lady Gaels had reason to celebrate also as Jen Kaehms won the girl’s JV race in 12:33. “I was scared throughout my first mile because my shoelace became undone,” said Jen, “but I told myself to just suck it up and finish since it might be my last race of the year. I was happy, because I won by a lot.”

The Gael’s season will continue next Saturday as the varsity teams take off to the North Coast Section Championships.
